Alabama-Quassarte Tribal TownPrior to the removal of the Muscogee Confederacy from their Southeastern homelands, the Alabama and Quassarte people each had a distinct identity as one of the 44 tribal towns in the Confederacy. They lived in Alabama. Later most of the Muscogee Confederacy migrated into Louisiana and Texas. Those who did not migrate formed an alliance and became the Alabama-Quassarte Tribal Town. They were moved to Indian Territory under the Removal Act of 1830, and were granted federal recognition as a tribal entity in 1839. Members of this tribe also retain dual citizenship as Muscogee (Creek) Tribal members. |
